Nutmeg has a complex flavor resembling that of cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves.
It compliments puddings, eggnog, spiced wine, muffins, apple pie and other sweet dishes. It is especially nice added to cream sauces for pasta and vegetables.
The seeds are approx. 3/4" to 1" long and oval-shaped. Grate whole seeds directly over food toward the end of cooking time, as the flavor diminishes when heated.
