Kala Namak, also known as black salt, black Indian salt, and Sanchal, is a deeply fragrant salt that comes from The Black Sea and is produced in Varna, Bulgaria. It is very salty and robust, used widely as a condiment in India. Despite its name, it is light purplish in color. Kala Namak is commonly added to chaats, chutneys, fruits, raitas and other savory Indian snacks. It is a significant component of Chaat masala, an Indian spice blend.
